T-Minus One Day

Today is my last day of hot showers, junk food and a reasonably easy way of life.

Tomorrow evening I'm flying to Nairobi, then on to Kigali in Rwanda and then a truck journey north across the border into Uganda, finally resting at a small village called Kisoro. I'm hoping to be there Sunday lunchtime.

I work in software design, so most of the time I sit at a desk solving problems, staring intensely into algorithms and drinking coffee. This experience will, I hope give me a break from that 'norm' and help me lose a couple of pounds around the middle too (hopefully not from sickness...)
I'm going to be working at Potters Village (http://www.pottersvillage.org.uk/) a child crisis center looking after abandoned and orphaned babies, teenage mums and destitute pre-school children. I hope to help finish the new adventure playground ready for Christmas and consult with them on their website and the use of other media to promote their project.

Packing is quite a chore and always moves down the list of things to do, so that will be tonights job. Essentials include - dollars, mosquito net, antiseptic cream, books, torch and candles (frequent power cuts I'm told) and many other items that the first time traveler might take to edge up to the ever tightening baggage allowance.

I'll be keeping a daily diary over the next few weeks with photos and attempted quips of my experience and with the rainy season and my newly growing fear of millipedes it should prove an interesting read.
Mobile Blogging from here.
